About Peekaboo
Peekaboo was set up in April 2006 when mum of two – Melissa Talago – noticed how many parents start up their own businesses selling baby related products and services once they have children of their own. While the ideas behind many of these businesses are brilliant, getting them noticed in this incredibly crowded market is tough. Peekaboo was created to help raise the visibility of these companies – some of whom are tiny, some are giants. Most importantly though, Peekaboo aims to support parents who want to fulfil their career dreams while still being able to spend time with their children.

This philosophy extends to Peekaboo’s partners – all of whom are parents with their own businesses. Too many talented people are forced off the career ladder after having children. Peekaboo believes in supporting all those entrepreneurial parents who are ‘doing it for themselves’!

Melissa has more than ten years of public relations, communications and marketing experience gained in the UK, the USA and South Africa. She’s represented a range of companies from Babylicious, V-Tech Toys to Microsoft Gaming to IBM. She has more than six years of study (in the fields of marketing, public relations and small business management) under her belt.
But most critically, Melissa’s a mum. That means:

• she can change a nappy, type with one hand and read a pop-up book all at the same time
• she knows the despair that goes with spending 30 minutes preparing a healthy meal only to be told: “Yuck, bin.”
• she’s familiar with the edge of insanity that comes when at least 3 loud, repetitive toys are blaring at the same time that both children are screaming
• she knows that being a parent is the most exhausting, rewarding and humorous experience imaginable – and that you have to appeal to these elements to effectively reach other parents
